The North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery (NCTIR) alliance was established following the November 2016 Kaikōura earthquake, a 7.8 magnitude event that caused widespread damage to road and rail infrastructure across the Canterbury and Marlborough regions of New Zealand.
