NCTIR: Moving Mountains to Reconnect Communities
Register to watch for free
The North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery (NCTIR) alliance was established following the November 2016 Kaikōura earthquake, a 7.8 magnitude event that caused widespread damage to road and rail infrastructure across the Canterbury and Marlborough regions of New Zealand. The alliance brought together multiple organizations to restore critical transport links and reconnect isolated communities under extreme conditions, including ongoing seismic activity, remote and difficult terrain, and rapidly changing design requirements.

Session Overview
When a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand in 2016, it not only shattered landscapes but also posed unprecedented challenges for the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery (NCTIR) team, whose role was to swiftly restore and rebuild the critically damaged transportation infrastructure, reconnecting isolated communities and re-establishing vital links across the affected regions.
This webinar delves into NCTIR’s challenging journey, focusing on how they managed overwhelming data volumes, coordinated with diverse teams in harsh conditions, adapted quickly to changing design requirements, and maintained effective communication with stakeholders amidst ongoing seismic activity. Join Charlie Dickson, Stuart Hamilton, and Cameron Paintin as they offer insight into the strategic solutions, tools, and processes that helped steer the project towards success and ultimately aid the recovery and reconnection of communities.
What You’ll Learn
- Seamless & effective collaboration across diverse and remote teams
- How to manage and organize large volumes of project data efficiently
