The Challenge
As a leading renewable energy consulting firm working across Australia, Asia and remote locations, Entura needed a more robust way to manage engineering data and design collaboration. The organization was relying on a mix of Windows network drives, SharePoint, Dropbox and email, creating duplication, version control issues and inconsistent processes across projects.
As project complexity increased, this fragmented approach made it harder to maintain a single source of truth, support distributed teams and standardize information management practices across the business.

The Solutions
Entura began by trialling 12d Synergy on a few small dam upgrade projects. This pilot phase allowed the team to build familiarity with the platform, develop internal training, and refine their information management processes before broader rollout.
Following the success of the pilot, adoption accelerated quickly. 12d Synergy gave Entura a centralized, data-agnostic environment that improved version control, reduced file instability and supported more consistent collaboration across teams and locations. It also helped position the business for ISO 19650-aligned workflows and future integration with other Common Data Environments across the Hydro Tasmania Group.

The Result
• A centralized and standardized data environment reduced duplication and confusion across projects
• Teams can now collaborate more effectively across offices, time zones and remote locations
• Project data management is better aligned with ISO 19650 requirements
• Entura is better positioned for digital engineering and future integration with other CDEs
• Reduced crashes and rework when using authoring tools, even in remote or network-variable environments
• Improved employee experience, helping support talent attraction and retention
“It was a game changer. From remote working to version control to authoring tool stability, the benefits were obvious.”
Entura is helping shape the future of renewable energy infrastructure
Entura is a leading renewable energy consulting firm and part of the Hydro Tasmania Group. With expertise spanning hydropower, dams and geotechnical engineering, wind energy and battery storage, the business delivers complex infrastructure solutions for Hydro Tasmania and clients across Australia and globally.
With offices across Australia and Asia, along with a growing remote workforce, Entura needed a more flexible and scalable approach to managing engineering data. As the business continued to support larger and more complex infrastructure projects, the need for consistent collaboration, stronger governance and better information accessibility became increasingly important.
Improving engineering data environment with 12d Synergy
The team immediately saw the potential of 12d Synergy during the pilot phase. Its ability to improve file stability and reduce downtime and rework caused by versioning issues was particularly valuable, especially when used alongside design authoring tools.
As the COVID-19 pandemic made flexible and remote working essential, the value of the platform became even more apparent. 12d Synergy enabled teams to continue collaborating effectively regardless of location, helping Entura maintain delivery continuity even when staff were no longer working in the same office.
The success of the pilot led to rapid growth in adoption, with additional licenses added over time as 12d Synergy proved its value across larger and more complex projects, including major billion-dollar projects.
Laying the foundation for future-ready project delivery
With a more scalable and consistent engineering data environment in place, Entura is well positioned for the next stage of digital project delivery. 12d Synergy now plays a foundational role in the business’s Common Data Environment strategy, helping support collaboration, governance and future-ready engineering workflows.
